Visual Art

As a young girl I used to pull back into my room to be drawing in peace. I was enchanted by the world that was appearing on paper, the world that seemed to have its own laws. I can recall the glowing of the blues and reds, and the details to which I dedicated all my sweet patience.

Later, when I landed on the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana I got dizzy when I realized what kind of a world I was getting into – a world painting – a world of visual parallel realities – a world of abstraction, purified of literal – a world of colourful and mysterious laws, which are best integrated when you allow yourself to fall prey to them. Since then I adore this dialog, this two-way giving and taking, which ends up with a painting, made through me, and yet alive on its own.

Painting is a game; it’s a privilege; it is sometimes lonely and even laborious work. Yet, it is, like every art, rewarded with irreplaceable gift of self-discovery, exploration of the unknown, mesmerizing worlds. Sometimes I’m really not sure – are the paintings here because of me, or am I here because of them?
